Review: Superposition

Superposition Superposition by David Walton
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Either I am not as smart as I think I am, the author was trying way too hard to prove he knows more about quantum physics than I do (no kidding?), or at the ripe old age of 32, my brain has reached maximum capacity and can no longer grasp new concepts. That would certainly explain my affinity for reading female led psychological fiction almost exclusively, so let's go with that. That's not to say I was utterly confused 90% of the time while trying to wrap my fragile mind around this extremely convoluted plot, but I did find myself in a state of "ah well, who knows? I'll just go with it" 89% of the time.

Now I fancy myself a fan of mind bending conundrums and I've dipped a few shoddily pedicured toes in the waters of quantum physics a time or two (only when disguised as simple fiction, of course!), so I feel I can say without judgement - we're all friends here, after all - that this novel took too many liberties with the concept of believability. Maybe this novel resides a little too far in the sci-fi realm for me, and I am to blame for my own discontent, and if that's the case, so be it. It was still better than half the books I've read, so that's something to be proud of.

I've also discovered Superposition is book #1 of a series, however, I think I am good. I clearly enjoyed it enough to give it three stars (though as I write this review, I am having a difficult time determining exactly why?), but this feels more like a wham bam thank you ma'am kind of arrangement. Superposition, you managed to both intrigue and excite me with your sexy, nerdy, smarty pants self, but you also made it clear we're not meant to get brunch together in morning. Thank you, but your Uber is waiting outside.
