Dark Matter by Blake CrouchMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
I read this book over a month ago and I'm just now coming back to review it. I guess it didn't make much of an impression on me one way or another. But I cannot NOT write some kind of a review since I have been on such a roll, so here we are.
The concept was pretty great, but the execution was just okay. It might have been more appropriately titled Quantum Physics (Lite) for Hopeless Romantics. It teetered on being an intellectual and fast paced mind bender, but then chickened out. I enjoy the "I can't quite wrap my head around it" concepts that make my average sized brain hurt and force me to reevaluate my intelligence level. This book started to take me there, but then decided that it would stay in the slow lane and Sunday drive into full blown love story territory.
I guess if you're looking to be overcome by the undeniable, unstoppable and ultimately inescapable power of <3 LOVE <3, this is a book for you. Nicholas Sparks ain't got nothing on this couple. They were separated by dimensions, okay? DIMENSIONS. And according to this novel - there are an infinite number of dimensions. And yet, <3 LOVE <3 still found a way to bring them back together. I learned that true love really does conquer all - even an endless number of alternate dimension versions of yourself who are on a mission to kill all other versions of yourself (see - there were some borderline epic concepts thrown in!).
That said, not a terrible novel, it definitely had moments where I was hardcore intrigued, but I wanted more suspense. More WTF moments. More twists and turns that made me scratch my head....And less overly gushy love stuff. Bleh. I don't read romance novels for a reason, and it's not just because I'm a heartless, pessimistic sociopath (okay, maybe a little.)
