Best Day EverBest Day Ever by Kaira Rouda

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Paul Strom is your average, every day narcissistic wanna-be Christian Bale in American Psycho character. Nothing we haven’t seen before, folks. Unless, of course, you consider a novel taking place in Ohio and it not being solely described as a middle of nowhere shit hole or hillbilly wasteland something unique. Which I actually do, since the majority of Ohio references in tv, books and movies portray anyone unlucky enough to live here as having some kind of unfortunate handicap and in need of a sympathetic “Hang In There" motivational kitten poster (if you don't understand that reference, Google it. Unless of course, you're in Ohio, in which case, you might not have access to WiFi because clearly life has already dealt you a losing hand, so an uncultured country bumpkin like you probably doesn't even have electricity).

Anyway, this 24 hour "day in the life" narrative is fairly easy to breeze through (and the blank pages between each of the chapters make an already quick task even faster) and it's mainly entertaining. At it's best it's a darkly humorous domestic fairy tale love story gone wrong, and at it's worst, it's an anti-climactic and predictable made for TV movie that doesn't really distinguish itself from any other novel on your bookshelf....Much like this review.
