Because She Loves MeBecause She Loves Me by Mark Edwards

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This is the first book I listened to via Audible and oh, how I wish I hadn’t. There’s a (strong) possibility that I wouldn’t have disliked this novel quite as much had I read it versus listening to an uptight sounding British man make a mockery of any female voice he had to impersonate. That in itself was odd to me. Who knew the narrator took on all of the voices themselves? Oh, everyone who’s ever listened to a book on tape? Oh, okay, carry on then....

Anyway, there were way too many ridiculous sex scenes in this book. This thirty something couple acted like horny teenagers who had just discovered ecstasy and Viagra. No one has sex that much (right..?). I am not someone who blushes around sex scenes by any means, but these were so corny I literally cringed on multiple occasions. That and rolled my windows up as to not have the pedestrians I was driving by assume I was a pervert.

But honestly, I could have looked past the unrealistic and gratuitous “love” scenes had the actual storyline been better. This was an utter disappointment. On so many levels. The characters were idiotic. And you cannot convince me that someone would stay with this woman given her blatant insanity — even if she wasn’t a serial killer. Which brings me to the ending, which holy shit, was horrible. There were so many — SO MANY — other avenues the author could have taken, but chose not to. I would have liked the ending more, and it would have been more believable, had my own mother suddenly appeared as a character in this book and it was revealed that she single handedly murdered everyone using my curling wand. Seriously.
